Psychological torture is a serious criminal offence in the Czech Republic, and perpetrators can be punished by up to 12 years imprisonment.
Today I had a disturbing experience visiting the new Nike store next to Novy Smichov. As I entered, the young male member of staff waiting to greet customers at the door, did so in a very polite and friendly way, which I returned. A brief moment later, I noticed his smile had suddenly turned to something more like worried bemuzement, as he looked past me to my right. I turned my head to see what had caught his attention, and a security guard was looking at me and smirking. To my knowledge this was the first time I had seen this particular security guard, and the first time I had seen a security guard in that new Nike store (it was only my second ever visit). I do not know what security firm he is employed by – his uniform was not that of Roman Bašta’s M2C security guards. But I will find out.
